Monarch Butterfly On Swamp Milkweed
Photographer: Cathy Gilleland
Photo Date: August 10, 2005
I
grow several kinds of milkweeds in the garden and they are all
butterfly magnets. Sometimes you can barely see the blossoms under all
of the butterflies and bees sipping at the nectar!

Grasshopper On Rudbeckia
Photographer: Cathy Gilleland
Photo Date: August 10, 2005
I
spent quite a while setting up a tripod and trying various angles for
my photos, but the grasshopper apparently never felt threatened and in
fact was still sitting quietly even after I finished.

Young Whitetail Buck
Photographer: Cathy Gilleland
Photo Date: July 22, 2005
This
youngster was feeding near my brush pile, and I gradually moved closer
to him each time he looked away to eat. As long as I was quiet and
moved slowly, he didn't show any fear and was content to continue with
his breakfast.

Hummer At Feeder
Photographer: Cathy Gilleland
Photo Date: July 2, 2005
I
call the hummer shot "directing traffic!" I was sitting nearby on the
deck, snapping photos whenever a hummer came to the feeder, and this
was one of my favorites. The birds were constantly swooping in and
chasing each other, landing only briefly before chasing or being
chased.

Whitetail Fawn
Photographer: Tom Patrick
Photo Date: July 22, 2005
While Whitetail Deer may do lots of damage to shrubs and flowers when
they mature, they are beautiful when they are fawns. This one was
just outside my office window, ate sunflower seeds and drank from the
birdbath.
